Intended for: Anyone who is interested in learning about new web-based tools to enhance productivity and facilitate collaboration.
Don’t know your blog from your wiki? Think that tagging is just something you played as a kid? Friends keep telling you they're "in Facebook" or "LinkedIn?" Noticing all those websites promoting RSS feeds and podcasts, but not sure what to do with them? Think Google is just a search engine, or that Internet Explorer is your only way to browse the web?
In the last few years, there's been an explosion of new tools that are changing how we work and play on the web. These new tools and technologies are sometimes referred to collectively as Web 2.0. In this hands-on session, you'll get to try out some of these new technologies and see how they can work for you:
- Blogs - how to find the good ones and what you need to set up your own
- Wikis for collaborative writing and editing
- RSS feeds for keeping up with news and information (and podcasts)
- Social software, from Facebook to del.icio.us
And as time permits...
- Firefox browser "extensions" that enhance your web browsing
- Google tools beyond the search engine
NOTE: THIS IS A TWO-PART WORKSHOP!
